It was, an interesting night at the Millstream Speedway. More on that later. Once things got going on the infield track, yes, the quarter-ish mile track in the infield of the big track, it was Zane DeVault’s night in GLSS 360 action.

DeVault would set quicktime in qualifying with a 14.783 second lap, topping the other 20 competitors. In the third and final heat race, it came down to the wire between DeVault and Kasey Jedrzejek, with Jedrzejek barely nipping DeVault at the line for the win. After the redraw, it would be Greg Wilson and DeVault on the front row, with Ricky Peterson, Kobe Allison, Chase Dunham, and Jedrzejek rounding out the first three rows.

On the start, Wilson jumped to the lead, while Jedrzejek rocketed his way into second, tucking in between Wilson and DeVault. Wilson would lead the first lap, but on lap two, Jedrzejek would go around Wilson on the top of turns three and four to take the lead. The yellow came out soon after for Jared Hortsman, who went off the top of turns three and four.

Jedrzejek got a good restart, but Wilson was right on his heels. They would be side-by-side for the lead down the front stretch. Jedrzejek held on as DeVault inched closer to the battling duo. The yellow would come out again, this time for Frank Neill. Jedrzejek got another good restart, not allowing Wilson to get close again. DeVault went to work on Wilson for second, got the spot, and then quickly made his way towards Jedrzejek for the lead.

DeVault took the lead from Jedrzejek on lap ten, and immediately checked out, getting into lapped traffic by lap 13. With eight laps left, DeVault’s lead was over three seconds, as Wilson caught back up with Jedrzejek for third. As Wilson and Jedrzejek battled for second, DeVault’s lead ballooned to over four seconds with three laps left. DeVault would cruise to the win, surprisingly his first with the GLSS Series, by over five seconds over Wilson, Jedrzejek, Dunham, and Darin Naida as the top five. It was DeVault’s second win, and third podium of the weekend, as he scored the FAST 410 win the night before at Waynesfield, and would finish third in GLSS competition the same night at Waynesfield.

“I think it [the little track] put on a good show for the fans,” said DeVault. I know I had a lot of fun, I was still beating the cushion down, and I know if it went to the big track, it probably wouldn’t have had that.”

“I think last night [at Waynesfield], I grew a lot of patience; I’ve been trying to work on that this year. I felt like earlier on I was trying to make the move in the first five laps and it would hurt me. I got patient, let the track come to me and the car come to me, my guys gave me a heck of a car. They [Jedrzejek and Wilson] moved down and got tight, and I started ripping the top, and it worked out. I think I was calm, collected, and they were battling back and forth and got racing and I was able to sneak around both of them,” said DeVault about working towards the lead.
